A kitchen knife sharpener is a must whether you have rheumatoid arthritis or not. Everyone needs sharp knives.
When your knife is dull you need to put a lot more pressure on it in order to make your cut. Having a sharp blade will decrease the pressure needed and reduce the strain on your hand and wrist.
This knife sharpener is unique in that it sharpens both straight edge knives as well as serrated ones. Most sharpeners will only sharpen straight edges. This one also sharpens Santoku and other Asian style knives of double-beveled edges. All of the knives that I recommended in my adaptive knives post. In addition to all of that it sharpens scissors too.
The rubber coated base gives you a firm grip so it doesn’t move around. It is also weighted giving you even more security.
There are 5 different blades available to sharpen all kinds of knives. You would sharpen a standard straight blade using the two blades on the left. Serrated and Asian knives are sharpened using the two blades on the right. And you would use the blade in the middle to sharpen scissors.
The tungsten carbide blades give you a quick edge setting while the ceramic blades are for fine honing. There is also a tungsten carbide blade specially designed to sharpen scissors fast and easy.
The sharpening angle is preset so you can’t make a mistake.
I own this knife sharpener and in my opinion, this is a perfect addition to add to your kitchen tools. We use it frequently and it does a great job.
