Vertical plant growing systems are an epic idea for arthritic gardeners. No need to get down on your knees and crawl around on the ground. They require a limited amount of stooping and bending depending on how high your vertical plant growing system is off the ground and weeds are pretty much non existent.
They come in units that are freestanding, hang from a wall or hang from a hook or ceiling. Some units are even self watering.

Self Watering Indoor Outdoor Vertical Wall Garden Planters
Self Watering Indoor Outdoor Vertical Wall Garden Planters
These vertical wall garden planters are perfect for people who have trouble bending and stooping. When you install the planters you can place them at whatever height is comfortable for you.
The wall flower pots are lightweight so you can easily mount them on walls and balconies. They are awesome for small vegetables, herbs and flowers.
The self watering system means less work for you! A nine foot hose will connect to any standard tap and waters the six top pockets at once. The water then drips on down to the next row and then moves down to each succeeding row. Some people who reviewed the product said that the watering system didn’t seem to work quite as well as they would like. The water didn’t seem to flow evenly. The manufacturer responded that the angle of each individual planter needs to be adjusted so that the water flows from one planter to the next. Sounds like this is a trial and error kind of thing.
These vertical wall garden planters also come in a pack of 6 and a pack of 9 pockets if you don’t need this large of an area. Or, you can purchase these smaller units if you want to add on to the larger system.

Gronomics Vertical Garden Planter
Gronomics Vertical Garden Planter
Most of the people who purchase the Gronomics vertical garden planter use it to grow strawberries and herbs. Things that hang and need good ventilation do well in this planter. Herbs grow well in this vertical garden planter. Of course flowers would be beautiful in it. Or a combination of both.
Note: This planter is designed to be placed up against a wall. It is not freestanding unless you make some revisions to make it so. While the claim is that it does not need any assembly, some reviewers disagreed with that statement. Specifics weren’t really given in any of the reviews.
A drip irrigation system is also included. How it works is that a sprinkler hose winds through the plants and attaches to a garden hose.
If you are looking for a way to garden without all the normal stooping and bending that is required with normal gardening, the Gronomics vertical garden planter may be just what you are looking for.

4 Foot Freestanding Vertical Garden with 5 Planter Boxes
4-Ft Freestanding Vertical Garden with 5 Planter Boxes
If you are unable to enjoy gardening because you can’t get down on the ground, this freestanding vertical garden is a perfect solution. The nice thing about this unit being totally freestanding is that you can place it wherever you want. There is no additional support needed.
Everyone who reviewed this vertical garden agreed that it is very sturdy. The frame is made of metal and is designed to hold between 65 – 90 pounds. This divides out so that each pot will hold about 13 – 18 pounds. If you live in a cold climate the frame can be folded down for storage in the winter months.
The dimensions of the Outland Living freestanding vertical garden are: 29″ (L) x 26″ (W) x 49″ (H). It weighs approximately 19.8 pounds. Five certified food safe grade plastic bins that measure 12.4″ (L) x 7.9″ (W) x 6.3″ (H) are included.
What really impressed me the most about this product were the reviews. At the time of this writing 67% of the people who reviewed this product gave it a 5 star rating, 22% gave it a 4 star, 5% gave it a 3 star and 4% gave it a 2 star review. No one gave it a 1 star rating. This is highly unusual!
People love these vertical gardens to grow herbs, vegetables and flowers. You can also purchase them in a 2-pack or a 4-pack.

Mr. Stacky 5 Tier Vertical Garden Planter
Mr. Stacky 5 Tier Vertical Garden Planter
People who reviewed the Mr. Stacky 5 tier vertical garden planter absolutely loved it! At the time of this writing 76% gave it a 5 star review and only 2% gave it a 1 star. They couldn’t say enough good things about it. Many who buy it end up purchasing a second or even a third so they can grow a variety of items. You can even mix and match with growing vegetables and herbs along with flowers to give it a splash of color.
Just about anything can be grown in this vertical garden planter with the exception of plants that are very large and viney type plants like pumpkins, squash, etc. However, people are growing things like herbs, tomato plants, peppers, radishes, even green beans (on the top). Strawberries seem to be the most favorite.
It waters from the top down. Just pour your water into the top container and it will drip down through to the other planters. The flow through design prevents root rot due to overwatering.
There are times you may want to move your vertical garden planter. You may want to turn it periodically so that each side can get sun. Or you just might want to move it to a different space. Adding a plant dolly under the planter allows you to move it around if you wish.
The Mr Stacky 5 tier vertical garden planter is a great space saver and perfect for arthritis sufferers who still want to garden.
